Great motion needs great sound.

Along with my friends at Priceless Misc and Impossible Acoustic, we launched MotionSound.io in 2016. It is a sound design library for motion designers.

Why this project?

Sound design is a big part of animation and production and there was a need for a library that was geared towards a specific type of motion design.

At the time we created Motion Sound there were many “cinematic,” sound design libraries that were appropriate for dramatic movie trailer work, but there weren’t many that were geared towards abstract 2d animation.

So I started emailing around to look for qualified foley artists who might be interested in partnering on this project. I also reached out to a friend who was a partner for a web development firm in Atlanta. Within a couple of months, we had agreed to a deal and started production on v1.0 of the library.

We are releasing 2.0 in November 2021, with the new custom search tool.

The Search Tool

Sometime around 2019 we decided as a group it would be cool to build a search tool to accompany the library. As the library grew larger and larger it became clear that navigating subtle variations in wooshes, slips, and slides was the key to making our library most valuable to the end user.

The search tool is really a glorified spreadsheet that gives a much more UX friendly way to filter and find the sounds you want.

Our lead developer Justin Ruckman has created a beautiful and easy to use search tool. This will allow users to easily find what they are looking for and do their post-production faster.
